Before you start...

EAC can be downloaded for free from www.exactaudiocopy.de.

I'm not going to delve very deep into the configuration of EAC here, just the most important bit. There's an excellent and detailed walk-through over at http://www.ping.be/satcp/tutorials.htm

Here we go.

This is the EAC main window. Here you see the contents of the current CD in the selected drive. Before you actually start extracting tracks, make sure that you've got at least the basic settings right:

Go to the EAC menu and select Drive options.

In the Extraction Method tab, make sure that you have selected Secure mode, and that you haven't selected to use caching. Alternatively, you can let EAC detect the read features of your drive.

When you've done that, you can start extracting the music. Click Action -> Copy Selected Tracks -> Uncompressed

WARNING! Don't be tempted to select Compressed! This extracts the music to MP3s, which is a lossy format, meaning the sound quality worsens! Don't do it. It annoys people, it's jarring and just plain stupid. Just don't do it, or I shall be forced to set Brendan with the Shillelagh loose on you.

EAC will ask for a place to save the files to. make sure that you select a location which has plenty of available disk space. A CD takes up about 700 MB of space. If there isn't enough space on the drive you selected, EAC will tell you so.

EAC will then extract the track onto your harddrive. You can follow the process with the status window.

When it's done, EAC will let you review the tracks extracted. If there were any errors in the extraction, or EAC couldn't read a track properly, it will tell you so, and let you review the track that it found errors in.

And that's it! You've now successfully copied the music from the CD to your harddrive. Next step is to start burning the music! Choose your preferred program:

Nero
Feurio
